This portion of my gallery is the most personal to me. Each portrait is a direct interaction and connection that I have with each man or woman that I draw. I spend many, many hours with each portrait. I find the human art the most fascinating of all the art that I do. There is a uniqueness with each person that I illustrate. That uniqueness is found deep in the eyes and it radiates outward exposing the heart and soul of the individual.
I started to draw portraits in my teens and have completed over five hundred portraits in my thirty plus year career. Each individual has their own personality in the way they look and pose for me and they never ever are the same. I love to capture the essence of the person and present it in the most way I can.
Most of my portraits have been from the martial arts industry, but not all. However, being born into the martial arts community I find the martial artist to be some of the most passionate and intense people that I have ever met. My obsession is to capture the passion found in each person that I paint.
I have always felt that if you take a picture you capture a moment, but when you do a painting of the person you immortalize that person. Families keep the memory of that person alive for many, many generations and the stories that surround them. I love knowing that I am part of keeping that part of history alive
