About the Martial Artist

ed-parker-jr.jpg

As a martial artist, Ed Parker Jr. has focused his martial arts training with a foundational and a complex understanding of his fathers art of American Kenpo (outside of the curriculum). Training and working under his father for over a decade. After the passing of his father in 1990, Ed turned to the teachings of Dr. Ron Chap’el, of whom he was awarded his black belt under in 1993. Ed trained with Ron Chap’el for well over a decade. His time with Dr. Chap’el was some of his most valuable time in his training outside of his father. He also had studied under Richard ‘Huk” Planas and Frank Trejo during his training with Ron Chap’el.

During the past 25 years Ed has taught, lectured, produced, published, written, illustrated, designed, choreographed and acted in various martial arts-related areas. He has a black belt in American kenpo karate. Ed has been awarded everything from a 1st degree black belt up to 10th degree, and has chosen to wear nothing but a plain black belt and claims no rank other than black belt. He prefers to just be a student of the arts in general, exploring and absorbing all that interests him.

Later Ed then decided to branch off on his own, to pursue his own interests in the realm of exploring a more passive way to solve self defense issues with-in various less threatening circumstances. Not as a replacement to what he learned but as another place of study and exploration. Ed had studied the Russian Martial Art of Systema for about 10 years off and on with Martin Wheeler and Frank Fileti as well as the system founder Vladimir Vasiliev.

In 1999 Ed traveled around the world, teaching over 70 seminars in 35 of the United States in one year. Since then he has taught over 300 seminars. He has also taught in such countries as Ireland, Holland, Jersey, England, France, Greece, Denmark, Canada, Venezuela and Mexico. He is considered one of the leading philosophers and historians in American martial arts. Ed is expected to travel to Chile and Australia in the not to distant future to teach and share his insights in those countries. With Ed’s art career flourishing, he is no longer pursuing any more seminars in his career. Although rare, Ed does still support and will teach at different events from time to time.

Ed published a book on his father (Memories of Ed Parker) that has sold over 10,000 copies, to-date. He was featured in two consecutive magazine articles in Black Belt Magazine, the largest and most widely distributed martial arts periodical in the world. Those profiles appear in the November ’99 and December ’99 issues. He has also been featured in Inside Kung Fu, Karate/Kung-Fu Illustrated, Karate and Fitness International, Budo, Fighters, Kampfkunst (Germany), Artes Marciales (Mexico), and Full Contact magazines.

In the year 2004, he founded and started EPAKS, Inc. a company dedicated towards the publishing and producing of high quality teaching and learning materials for the martial arts industry. He has just produced over 140 paintings featuring kenpo techniques (found in the Gallery section of this site), each painting has been transformed into decks of training cards. He has also released his first co-authored book on the “Kenpo Kards” that he co-authored and produced with his business partner Ken Herman.

Ed has also completed the first kenpo designed martial arts uniform for the Tiger Claw company. This uniform is ground breaking history for the branch of martial arts known as kenpo. This uniform has received international recognition and is expected to be used by thousands of martial artists around the world. At the beginning of 2007, Ed launched a custom certificate business for the martial arts industry called diplomaz.com. Featuring highly detailed and illustrated certificates and personalized printing and is soon to release a line of clothing for the martial arts industry and beyond.
